Impact of World Youth Day 2023 on Delivery Services
World Youth Day 2023 is approaching and will bring with it an event of global magnitude to the charming city of Lisbon. However, it is important to note that this celebration will also have an impact on the services and routines of the region.
With the mobility plan in place, restrictions in the red, yellow and green zones can directly affect the logistics of delivery companies, which may result in possible delays in scheduled shipments during the days of the event.
World Youth Day 2023: Impacts on Lisbon Mobility
The long-awaited World Youth Day, an event of global proportions, will bring with it a mobility plan that promises to significantly change traffic in the charming city of Lisbon.
In this sense, the authorities will implement restricted zones, with different colors, to manage the vehicular flow. In the red zone, comprising the area from Parque Eduardo VII to Praça do Comércio, the circulation of vehicles will be prohibited. In addition, workers who need to access the yellow zone must obtain a formal declaration from their employers. For lovers of bicycles and scooters, there will be restrictions in much of Lisbon.
The specific dates will also bring challenges to Lisbon's traffic. On August 1st, 3rd and 4th, car traffic from Parque Eduardo VII to Baixa de Lisboa will be absolutely prohibited. Subsequently, on August 5 and 6, there will be restrictions in the regions of Parque das Nações and Passeio Marítimo de Algés.
The exact locations of the red, yellow and green zones have been carefully delimited by the Municipal Directorate of Mobility of the Lisbon City Council. The Marquês de Pombal Square, the central thoroughfares of Avenida da Liberdade, Praça dos Restauradores, Praça do Rossio and the Praça do Comércio area are part of the red zone, where circulation will be prohibited. Meanwhile, the yellow zone, with intense restrictions, will encompass the parishes of Santa Maria Maior, Santo António and Avenidas Novas, extending from Cais do Sodré to Santa Apolónia and from Graça to Campo Pequeno. The green zone, with conditional restriction, will comprise areas such as Alvalade, Arroios, São Vincente and São Domingos de Benfica, reaching the Monsanto Park.
Specifically, the Tagus Park area will suffer cuts in the circulation of the IC2 (Complementary Itinerary), during the ceremonies that will take place on August 5 and 6. Such restrictions will extend from 11:50 p.m. on August 4 until the evening of August 6 to August 7, causing some inconvenience in this region.
The red, yellow and green zones will also be adapted to cover the Parque das Nações, the Olive Groves and the area near Humberto Delgado Airport, becoming places of restricted or strongly conditioned circulation during the event.
And not only the Tagus Park, but also the Passeio Marítimo de Algés will face restrictions on August 6. The area near the stage will be classified as a red zone, which will entail a complete traffic ban. Meanwhile, in the yellow zone, covering Avenida de Brasília and Doca de Pedrouços, circulation will be guaranteed only for residents, workers with authorization from the employer, loading and unloading between 24h and 7h, as well as public transport such as taxis, Carris and TML. It is important to note that GIRA bicycles and scooters will not be able to circulate neither in nor around the Yellow Zone.
In this way, it is evident that the World Youth Day will leave its mark on the mobility of Lisbon, demanding adjustments and cooperation from all for the success of this great event.
